What distribution are you using? Steam, Microsoft Store or GOG? As the trainer states it is only 100% compatible with the STEAM version.
I had some trouble getting the latest to work. If I opened it first then the game it didn't seem to hook into the exe right or something. It does work fine from what I played around with so nice work.

Are you using "F1 - Activate Trainer" first?
I did but it wouldn't activate for some reason initially after a few tries. It seemed to lag as well. I ended up closing the trainer and game then giving both the game and trainer some extra time to load then it worked. The first couple of attempts it would find the game fine then wouldn't update the trainer or allow me to activate f1 or any option even. I dunno maybe I wasn't fully logged in or windows was at fault. It works great though if you give it a hot minute for the game and trainer.

Unfortunately, the last Everspace 2 update (Incursions) messed up all the trainers..
Should I espect a new trainer some day soon?
Trainer updated to support v1.2.40068. The game had upgraded from UE4 to UE5.3 since I last updated the trainer so it took a while to update.Hi!

If you change the difficulty number, save and reload it should change the difficulty for that save.
