Difficulty using certain cheats

The game is KH Chain of Memories. When I try to populate the ?? fields with anything, letters, numbers, single or double digit, as soon as I click out of the box, it returns to ?? whether the game is linked and running or not. I've tried restarting the computer and reinstalling.

Did you enable "Activate Trainer" first? It is needed in order to populate the editors.
